Number of employees

The festival office employs a permanent staff of 4 on a yearly basis (2 full-time, 1 at 50%, 1 at 40%) to coordinate all sectors of activity. The 4 employees work together with the persons responsible for each sector who are employed on a per-mandate basis. During the event, about 300 volunteers work on-site at the festival.

Rock Oz’Arènes is a highlight in itself – each year its pulse beats to the rhythm of the artists’ performances. The festival’s history is studded with concerts by the likes of Manu Chao, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Placebo, Muse, Patricia Kaas… The year 2000 marked a true turning point for Rock Oz’Arènes with the installation of metal steps with an additional 2000 seats. Since then, the festival has continued to grow and the ticket offices are sold out every evening.

The motivation and the vision behind the founding of the company

Bringing back to life the magnificent Roman arenas in Avenches and making them vibrate to the music of today’s rock stars instead of the gladiators of old. To offer the public quality concerts with innovative, audacious programming in an exceptional setting.

Geographical orientation

Aventicum was the capital of Roman Helvetia. Steeped in history, Avenches-la romaine is one of Switzerland’s most significant archeological sites. Its arenas are the festival’s jewel box : the town’s ruins, its small, paved roads, 11th century temple, Renaissance castle and churches all contribute to make the setting unique. Located in la Broye vaudoise, not far from Fribourg and Bern, Avenches is at the language crossroads and draws both a French and a German-speaking public.

Approximetly 20% of the artists are from Switzerland and 80% international.

Personal orientation for the future

Rock Oz’Arènes will strive to preserve its human dimension, the beauty of its site, the quality of its audiences and the proximity of onstage performers to the public. With its focus on rock, the festival aims to welcome artists of international renown and to discover new talent from all overe the world. Since the festival’s capacity is dictated by the size of the arenas and cannot be enlarged, the festival could be held over more days.
